ikea hacking

ikea hacker is a blog where people contribute their IKEA hacks - unorthodox ways of using IKEA products.

I have sent them one of my hacks, and will link it here when they accept and post it. Meantime, here's a picture of what I did with 2 identical items and a few dollops of blue-tack. Can you spot it?

  1. Oh, you stacked the two tables to make a tv stand...looks good.
    What is blue tack?

    Happy HNT!

  2. LA - wikipedia says you call it Fun-Tak in the States.

  3. ... be careful though. Your TV looks quite expensive, and Ikea furniture has the tendency to disintegrate quite quickly... from my experience at least.

  4. Albert! Don't you think it's time you got a proper job? The things that poor dog must have seen! Hotboy

  5. Albert? What is the dog called? Have you blu-tacked it to the floor? Is it stuffed? It must be at least fifteen years old. Not long to go there. No brain left certainly. What does it think it's looking at? Distainful dog shot! Hotboy

  6. Cossie - good point, the TV is about 48 kilos. It's a Korean brand, so smashing it to the floor would be the best outcome, I could get a new one at last.

HB - how many more times? It's called Mad. It's gazing adoringly at the half-naked photographer. Who wouldn't?

  7. Nice hack. Which half is naked?
As far as flimsy furniture goes you could
    a) use glue instead of blu-tack
    b) for the craftier people maybe drill a rod of some kind into the legs and glue those.
    My $0.02.

  8. dohi - good ideas. I chose blue-tac so that I could take the thing apart one day and use it as tables again. So far it has lasted about 3 years without showing any signs of movement. Those Lack tables are solidly built.

  9. this is crazy! i just saw this & i've got somewhat the same set up. I put brackets on mine though securing the legs of the top table to the top of the bottom table.. mainly because I have a 90 pound fishtank on top!

  10. allie - you're obviously a person of great taste and intelligence. Those Lack tables are indestructible. If you're ever in town, come around and we'll stand on my tables together and blog the photo.

  11. I did the same thing, and everyone asks me where I got my tv stand. Mine isn't even screwed together or anything. I'm a rebel.
