falling down and building up

The former pension fund is in hospital with a broken leg after a nose-dive down icy steps. But she's a dogged old thing, and is already forcing herself through the rehabilitation process, painful though it is. In contrast, when the old dear fell and broke something, she took to her bed and waited to die. I'm not sure what I would do at that age.

I've been going to the (home) gym regularly for a whole month, and without even injuring myself (so far). I'm turning from a puny weakling into a puny strongling. Not a single extra ounce of muscle, but the existing muscles are noticeably stronger. I should content myself with looking weak but being strong, but part of me would prefer the other way round. It all balances up.

  1. Falls can be so hard on folks. But attitude makes a big difference.

I never care much what I look like as long as I am fit enough to do the stuff I want to.

  2. Nanners. I think OAP houses should be carpeted with foam rubber.

  4. Sadly that makes a fall more likely. Little rugs are a huge danger and most old folks have zillions of them.

More is being learned about teaching folks how to prevent falls. Basic mindfulness helps a great deal.

I just need to learn that before I get auld.

  5. I was almost hit by a taxi running a red light today. Even at a "green man" you still need to be mindful enough to remember and check whether cars are trying to beat the light. Being in the right counts for nothing when it's your body up against speeding steel. In the words of Hotters - basturns!
